I can definitely feel a little more hp being developed by my '03 Porsche 911. The intake sound is cool...it sounds like a jet hitting afterburner. Well, maybe not quite that, but it is a very cool sound.Next, the design and material quality. Overall, I'd rate the material quality as very good. The metal is steel, the hardware is strong, and the filter is robust. The design quality is good enough to do the job. But, I would like it to have a top cover to reduce the possibility of water dripping down on the filter. Finally, the installation. It went together ok and went in without too much trouble. An easy install job for anyone with hand tools and some basic mechanical ability. Nothing too tricky. For a test drive, I drove up to the K&N factory from San Diego. It's been debated whether or not the OEM Porsche air-box is actually restrictive. Regardless of that, the K&N kit is a nice change for the engine bay. Eliminating the OEM airbox gives you a bit more space in the engine bay. Build quality of this product is excellent.The installation instructions were pretty horrible. Poorly written with low quality pictures. Some of the parts in the installation pictures appeared to be prototypes and did not match what was included in the kit. Also, just a note, depending on which type of engine lid you have, this filter will be directly exposed to the opening in the engine lid (with the fan), allowing water to spill directly on to this filter should it be raining. The kit includes a type of cloth cover for the filter which is supposedly water resistant. Be sure to use ALL of the mounts, including the one which requires drilling into the latch.
