This time, I wanted boots that were insulated, had a cushioned sole, and a steel shank. I bounced all over Amazon comparing specs and reviews. The boots that seemed to qualify were all surprisingly expensive. Then I saw these, with the claim to be the "ultimate". Hard details were somewhat lacking (but they're "ultimate", right?). Based on four days use, two of them in 3 to 8 inches of slushy, semi-frozen mud... 1-They're the most comfortable rubber boots I've had. 2-They're the warmest too. (The tag in the box says they're good to -20*.) 3-There is no shank. (The soles are thick and stiff enough that it usually won't matter. But when my trusty Merrells started breaching water, I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Muckmasters, luckily for $109.95 "on sale". They have been worth every penny and more. The price "originally" was $137, I would have winced at this, but bought them anyway and would be just as happy now.
